Review of
the Wheat Seed Sector in Afghanistan
This review of the wheat seed sector builds
on the historical program data available, discussions with
actors involved in the seed sector and extensive field observations
by the author. The paper analyses the strength and shortcomings
of emergency and longer term seed programs, discusses in details
issues such as seed needs assessments, seed quality and seed
adaptability with due considerations to the peculiarities
of the Afghan context. The paper reviews the challenges ahead
in transforming the current seed multiplication system in
a post-war context and briefly presents a possible approach
to undertake necessary changes. Read
